Moving to Texas or just around DFW? Here are 10 Things to Do Before You Pack

With my current clients, it’s nearing that time…MOVING! While it’s so exciting to be closing on a home, moving can be a stressful and overwhelming process. But it doesn't have to be if you're organized and prepared and well equipped with the right person by your side. Me!

By following my moving process checklists step by step, you can make the transition to your new home as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Here are some tips to make the moving process seamless:

1. Create a checklist

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE me a good checklist! I make them weekly and daily to help keep me on task and organized.

One of the first things you should do before you even start packing is to create a checklist of everything that needs to be done before the move. This will help you keep track of your progress and ensure that nothing is forgotten. When creating your checklist, be sure to prioritize tasks so that the most important ones are taken care of first.

This is one thing that I can definitely help you with. I already have a ton of downloadable resources like checklists to print out and utilize. That’s the beauty of working with an experienced Realtor®  like me here in Dallas and Fort Worth.

2. Notify important parties

Once you have your checklist, it's time to start notifying important parties of your move. This includes utility companies (electricity, gas, water, internet, etc.), the postal service, insurance providers, employers, schools, doctors, banks, and financial institutions. Be sure to give these parties plenty of notice so that they can make the necessary arrangements. And guess what? I have a checklist for that, too!

3. Gather necessary documents

In addition to notifying important parties, it's important to gather all necessary documents before the move. This includes birth certificates, passports, social security cards, marriage certificates, insurance policies, vehicle registration and titles, and educational records. Keep these documents in a safe and easily accessible place, such as a secure folder or lockbox.

4. Pack an essentials bag

While you're packing, be sure to set aside an essentials bag that includes items you'll need for the first few days in your new homes, such as toiletries, towels, bedding, and any other necessary items. You should also include important documents, cash and credit cards, and medications in this bag. This will ensure that you have everything you need when you arrive at your new home.

5. Purge and declutter

Before you start packing, it's a good idea to go through your possessions and get rid of anything you no longer need or want. This will not only make the packing and moving process easier, but it will also help you start fresh in your new home. Consider donating or selling items that you no longer want, and properly dispose of hazardous materials.

6. Arrange for transportation

Once you've decluttered and started packing, it's time to arrange for transportation. This may involve renting a moving truck or hiring a moving company, as well as reserving a storage unit if needed. If you have pets, be sure to plan for their transport as well.

7. Arrange for temporary housing, if necessary

If you need temporary housing during the moving process, consider options such as hotels, Airbnb, or staying with friends or family. This will give you a place to rest and relax while you take care of everything else.

8. Plan for the move-out and move-in days

On the day of the move, be sure to coordinate with movers or helpers, and pack a cooler with drinks and snacks to keep you hydrated and energized. If you have children or pets, make arrangements for their care while you focus on the move.

I normally prefer to be able to wait to move in at least a few days so that I can get in the home and clean it. This is especially true for new construction, but can ring true for buying a pre-existing home as well.

I also like to move in my full kitchen including pantry items, bathrooms, closets/clothes and have clean linens, blankets, towels, and clothes ready to go. That way you’re not searching through tons of boxes trying to find the toothbrush or plates to eat off of.

9. Celebrate the new beginning

After all the hard work is done, take a moment to celebrate your new beginning in your new home. Reflect on the move and all the hard work that went into it, and look forward to the new adventures that await you in your new home. Order some pizza or your favorite takeout the evening of the move so you can enjoy your first meal in your new home without trying to prep dinner. You’ll be exhausted, so give yourself that break.

Pricing a Home to Sell in the DFW Metroplex

In the dynamic Dallas/Fort Worth real estate landscape, while the pace isn't as feverish as the 'unicorn' years of 2020-, strategically priced homes continue to command swift sales and spark competitive bidding. This phenomenon is fueled by the persistently low inventory of available homes. Recent data shared by the National Association of Realtors (NAR) underscores this trend, revealing that a remarkable 76% of homes found buyers within a single month, with an average of 3.5 offers per home recorded in June. To position yourself advantageously amidst these favorable dynamics, enlisting the expertise of a skilled agent is paramount. A seasoned agent possesses the critical insights required to accurately determine the optimal asking price for your property. Here's the significance of getting this price right in today's market climate. The price you establish for your property carries a substantial message to potential buyers. Should you set it too conservatively, you...
